Partners for Development is an international solidarity and supporting network to Program Otonomi, an economic and social development program on Flores Island.

Program Otonomi has its origins in the Water Bearer Program, an initiative of Volunteer Gilles Raymond to bring drinking water to the villages of Flores, where women used to walk over two hours a day through mountain trails in order to fill their plastic jugs.

Local autonomy being a prerequisite for the development of local communities, Program Otonomi has set up a ginger, coffee and Albesias trees plantation operated, controlled and managed by the Ngada Peasants Cooperative. This cooperative allows member families to get out of poverty.

A waste recycling Cooperative (Bank Sampah) project in collaboration with the regional Government of Flores also figure amongst Program Otonomi’s ventures.
